The new cookbook Fork in the Road with Eric Villegas (Huron River Press) is a companion to Chef Eric's award-winning national PBS cooking show of the same title.
The 192-page, hard cover, book is filled with gorgeous food & other photography that sweeps you across the magical mitten, the great state of Michigan. From north to south and east to west Chef Villegas covers the great agricultural heritage of the state in his sumptuous recipes.
Fork in the Road clearly goes hand-in-hand with "unkle e's" TV persona, capturing his funny and energetic personality. The recipes, written in clear, easy to follow instructions will appeal to the serious cook as well as the novice. Chef Villegas puts his own creative spin on traditional, natural, organic and wholesome Michigan cuisine. The book is organized roughly by the regions of the state: Freshwater, The Fruit Belt, Middle of the Mitt, The Thumb, The U.P., and The Great Lakes Pantry.
In Eric's travels throughout the state, he meets Michigan's growers, bottlers, producers, and farmers and purchases their products to use these ingredients in his recipes. Whether on TV or in the book, "unkle e" rambles on about all things related to food. Chef Eric gives his insights into the culinary foodstuffs of the great state of Michigan and cooking tips to help you "gastronauts" know step-by-step how to prepare the recipes - all of this and more delivered in his spirited "unkle e" way!

Hi! I am watching your cooking show right now featuring "cooking with coffee" recipes. I am super excited about this episode because I work at a Milwaukee based roaster and love cooking with coffee! You showed a rub you made, and I found this interesting because during the summer we feature our own rub made out of coffee and delicious spices. MMM. It's good in chili too! You also mentioned a Bolivian pepper (and were excited because your family is from there) and thought I'd share some more coffee knowledge. My coffee company currently offers one coffee from Bolivia…for 19.95 a pound! It is a rare find to find a superb Bolivian coffee, but we are fortunate enough to have found and purchased some green beans that are currently in production for a short time. Thanks for the fabulous show and info on coffee…even after 6 years in the coffee industry, I learned something from Flanders. Great! If you would like some samples of the Bolivian or coffee rub we offer, feel free to ask!
I've just heard your restaurant is closing. I'm hoping that this is just a transition and your welcoming smile and menu will reappear somewhere.
Oh what a treat it has been in the past to celebrate special occasions at your comfortable, cozy restaurant.
I have searched for your recipe for roasted beet & feta salad. It is my favorite salad ever. Have you ever divulged the recipe and, if not, would you?
Thanks……happy trails.
I live "Downriver" from Detroit (Riverside, Michigan). Where could I find clancy's fancy hot sauce? I have asked a two local markets (Kroger's and Concessi's) with no success.
Your referral would be appreciated.
Love the show and the recepies. The summer fruit salad is a special favorite!

Garett,
Not sure where to get it downriver. If you have a gourmet oriented grocery store you could ask them to order it. Maybe Zingerman's has it. Up here in Lansing, the local Shoprite stocks it, imagine that.
It's made in Ann Arbor. Google Clancy's Fancy Hot Sauce for more info.
