A wonderful sweet-hot flavor for your next barbeque
Ingredients:
1 1/2 cups raw apple cider vinegar
1 cup fresh apple cider or water
1 tbsp or more to taste maple sugar
1 tbsp hot red pepper flakes
1 small red onion, thinly sliced
1 hickory smoked or raw jalapeno, thinly sliced
(for a milder sauce, seed the chiles)
2 tsp sea salt, or to taste
1/2 tsp freshly ground black pepper, or to taste
Method:
Combine all the ingredients in a medium sized nonreactive sauce pan and stir until the sugar and salt are dissolved. Bring to a boil and then reduce heat to medium low and let simmer for 8-10 minutes. Taste for seasoning, adding salt and sugar as necessary.
